Retracing the steps of my first home video recording 30 years later (7/25/24)
July 25 marked 30 years since my first home video recording. As I had done on the 20th and 25th anniversaries, I retraced the steps from that first recording. I even added a timestamp, but with a 24-hour clock instead of the original 12-hour AM/PM clock. I blurred out my parents' cars' license plate in Adobe Premiere Pro.

Canon VIXIA HF G70 Test Videos (6/8 & 6/13/24)

TL;DR These are test 4K30 videos I shot with a Canon VIXIA HF G70 camcorder while I had it. I'm posting as a public service for anyone interested in buying. LONG VERSION: I recently bought an open box Canon VIXIA HF G70 on eBay as a secondary camcorder for event videography. I like to shoot in 4K60, as I do with my primary camcorder, a Panasonic HC-X1500, but I opted for the G70 in spite of its...

In Fort Myers, we have the "Dark Days of September." Hurricane Irma hit Fort Myers on Sunday September 10th, 2017 with winds to 84 mph. Knocked a lot of trees and tree branches down, blew down signs, tore shingles off roofs, and left a lot of people without power. And then 5 years later, disaster struck again, far worse this time, in the form of Hurricane Ian. Hurricane Ian hit Fort Myers on Wednesday September 28th, 2022 with sustained winds of 150 mph with gusts easily in excess of 200 mph and up to a 30 foot storm surge on Fort Myers Beach. The storm surge leveled much of Fort Myers Beach. It leveled Plaka on the Beach, Cottage Bar, The Whale, Hooters of Fort Myers Beach, Junkanoos, and Dairy Queen, it wrecked Lani Kai and even Yucatan Bar & Grill. The storm destroyed the pier next to Times Square. Hurricane Ian even siphoned a huge surge up the Caloosahatchee River, beaching and swamping numerous boats and putting 3 feet of water into the Hideaway bar in Downtown Fort Myers. Hurricane Ian even killed a number of people, including a waitress, Bonnie, who worked at Plaka on the Beach. Inland, the storm tore roofs off several buildings, including CB2 Bar & Grill.

What was said 7:35 about a tornado touching down in Dade County, Florida, where Hurricane Andrew caused so much damage, is incorrect. I checked the National Weather Service records and it said nothing about a tornado in that part of the state. There were tornadoes farther north in Florida, some west of Orlando. It was probably straight line winds, which would also be strong enough to blow tents away. He couldn't have seen the funnel cloud, because it happened in the middle of the night.

23:54 Shelia lived in a section of Arrowhead subdivision where the tornado first entered Xenia. Within a single block area, 9 people were killed. The boy she mentioned was Michael De Ehret. He was at home with his two sisters. One survived, the other died four days later. On that same corner, a newborn was ripped from his mother's arms and killed, a 7 year old boy hiding under a couch was sucked out and killed, a young mother was killed, and her little boy died at a hospital the following night. On Joyce Behnkens street, one woman died protecting her children, and a teenager from India was killed by flying debris. I recently found out his parents and sister were killed in the Pan Am Flight 103 bombing in 1988

There's been nothing from him in 7 years, no activity of any of the sort not even a word, or has he just completely retired and put everything behind him? Thom in my opinion deserves to be more recognized for his contributions to the cartoon industry and such, coming from a *huge* fan of thom (see what I did there?) Thom proved to me that you didn't need to be any celebrity or anyone well known in the acting industry, even a really unknown person that no one knows about could be your favorite actor, and he became my favorite voice actor because of his lively and energetic performance in the 80's Garfield media, it felt real and authentic. Not to discredit the great Lorenzo music or Gregg Berger as they're also absolute pioneers in my book along with Thom Huge.

The tri state tornado was shrouded with dust and debris but also was likely obscurred by rain. The tornado was huge. It had an average width of .75 miles wide. But it's peak size was 1.25 to 1.50 miles wide in Hamilton county and white county in southern illinois. The tornado likely resembled the hackelburg- Phil Campbell of 2011/04/27. Also tri state tornado survivors were shown photos of the witchita falls texas tornado of 1979/04/12, and they said the tri state tornado looked very similar to the wichita falls 1979 tornado.

What Marty Stewart said about the 1974 tornado: "...there was a *Tornado Warning* for our city, which you always think, 'Well, it's not ever going to come here, so...'" It seems many people react that way when either a *Tornado Warning* or a *Severe Thunderstorm Warning* is issued for their area. In addition, when severe weather strikes, many people often say, "It will always happen to somebody else. It will never happen to me." This was not mentioned in this video, but it seems to be related to what she said. By far, the scariest tornado is the infamous *Tri-State Tornado* that struck on March 18, 1925. I wasn't alive back then (born in 1979), so I can't even imagine what it looked like to people describing it. The simulation of the Tri-State Tornado looks creepy, but I can't imagine being there and seeing it in person. As for myself, I've never seen a tornado in person, although I may have seen a few small funnel clouds at times. But, they may have been scud clouds that were mistaken for funnel clouds since there were no warnings when I saw them. Whether they were scud clouds or funnel clouds, they didn't cause any harm to anyone or anything in my line of sight.

Hi Mike, again thanks for posting these! I had a technical question of sorts: Would you happen to know of a way (via an equalizer app of some sort presumably) that I could increase the base and reduce the treble on these youtube recordings? I was there that night and the driving bass added so much to the impact of the song. Either way, grateful for the postings!

You could probably do that in audio editing software like Audacity or Adobe Audition.

The part of the country the tristate tornado hit. I’ve chased several storms in the same area that have a lot of Dixie Alley attributes. What the lady was explaining is exactly what I see in high shear environments where the front leading edge looks as it rolling horizontally. But Dixie alley and Hoosier alley I’ve seen alot of (NOT RAIN WRAPPED) but fog wrapped or the forested areas seem to condense from the low pressure and it surrounds the tornado in a haze or fog. Most people immediately assume it’s rain wrapping but I’ve unfortunately got close enough to find out it’s not rain it’s just a strange fog or haze. But they become extremely difficult to see. Also it was March 18th. During the early months you usually will see tornadoes moving 45-75mph across the ground. Depending on if it’s tornado, Dixie, Hoosier, alley. But all you generally see faster forward speeds Dixie is 55-75mph is what I expect always.

You think of cornfields when you think of rural areas of Illinois. But in southern Illinois, it's not like that. There are more hills and trees, as it's close to the foothills of the Ozarks. Central and Northern Illinois are where the cornfields are (in the rural areas, obviously not in the Chicago area).

How do we know what it looked like? No pictures no video just unreliable eye witnesses
